Rigoberto (le dicen “Rigo”) tiene diez años y estudia tercer grado. Vive con sus papás y sus hermanos en Agua Caliente.
Rigo vive por el fútbol. Es su deporte favorito y entrena todos los martes y jueves con la escuelita de fútbol del municipio. Sorpresa – cuando sea grande quiere ser jugador profesional! Su materia favorita es matemáticas y su comida favorita es Pollo Campero (pollo frito). Rigo está orgulloso porque puede hacer aviones de papel.
Rigoberto es un niño muy especial y sus papás dicen que es un milagro que está vivo. Cuando estudió preparatoria (hace cuatro años) recibió un golpe en la cabeza con una pelota y estuvo en coma durante cinco días. Después pasó un mes y medio en cuidados intensivos. Por eso, tenía que repetir kínder y aún tiene problemas en retener información. Sus papás le matricularon en el colegio por dos razones. Primero, porque los profesores aquí son más atentos. Y segundo, porque Rigo recibe atención especial algunos días de la semana.
El papá de Rigo no tiene trabajo fijo y la familia no está en una buena situación económica. Sus papás se rebuscan para la mensualidad, pero no podrían con toda la cuota. Por eso, le hemos ofrecido media beca.

Rigoberto (or, as his family calls him, “Rigo”) is ten years old and in third grade. He lives with his parents and his younger brothers in Agua Caliente.
Rigo lives for soccer. It’s his favorite sport and he practices every Tuesday and Thursday with the municipal “soccer school”. No surprise, when he grows up, he wants to be a professional soccer player. His favorite subject is math and his favorite food is Pollo Campero (like KFC). Rigo is proud of the fact that he can make paper airplanes!
Rigoberto is a very special boy and his parents say it’s a miracle he is still alive! When he was in kindergarten (four years ago), he got hit in the back of the head with a soccer ball. Rigo was in a coma for 5 days and then spent another month and a half in intensive care. Because of this, he had to repeat kindergarten and he is having trouble retaining information. His parents enrolled him at PNARDS for two reasons. First, they know he will be safer here than at the public school, where the teachers don’t pay as much attention to what is going on in the schoolyard as they perhaps should. Second, Rigo will get extra help from his teachers and special review sessions once a week.
Rigo’s father does not a have a steady job and the family is not in a good situation economically. His parents eke out the money for his studies every month, but wouldn’t be able to pay the entire tuition, which is why we have offered him a scholarship.
