Luis tiene catorce años y estudia noveno grado en el colegio. Es alumno desde el primer grado, el mismo año en que se fundó el colegio. Vive con sus papás y su hermano menor, Santiago (alumno de segundo grado) en el cantón de Agua Zarca. Vive a la par de sus primas, Madelin y Alexandra, quienes también estudian en el colegio.
Luis piensa seguir estudiando en el instituto nacional en Agua Caliente el otro año. En su tiempo libre, le gusta pescar con su papá y ama a los animales. Tienen muchos en su casa. La comida favorita de Luis es macarrones.
Los papás de Luis tienen ganado. Sin embargo, su ganancia mensual es aproximadamente $150, ya que el precio de la leche ha bajado. Vienen en el bus todos los días y con todos los gastos de la casa, es dificil para sus papás alcanzar la cuota del colegio también. Sin embargo, la mamá de Luis lucha para que sus hijos salgan adelante y viendo sus esfuerzos, le hemos ofrecido una beca a Luis para terminar sus estudios aquí.

Luis is fourteen years old and is in ninth grade at PNARDS. He’s been studying here since first grade, the same year in which PNARDS was founded. He lives with his parents and his younger brother, Santiago, (who is in second grade here) in the township of Agua Zarca. He lives right next door to his cousins, Madelin and Alexandra, who also go to PNARDS.
Luis plans to go to the public high school in Agua Caliente next year. He likes fishing with his dad in his free time and he loves animals. They have a lot of them on their farm. Luis’ favorite food is spaghetti.
Luis’ parents keep dairy cattle. However, their income is only about $150 per month, especially now that the price of milk has dropped. They take the bus into town every day, and with all the expenses the family has, it is hard for their parents to afford the tuition for both sons. However, seeing the effort that Luis’ mother makes for her boys, we have offered a half-scholarship to Luis so that he can finish out his primary school here.
