Manuel tiene nueve años y estudia segundo grado. Es su segundo año en el colegio. Empezó el año pasado, pero nunca había estudiado kínder. Tenía bastantes problemas para empezar a leer, but se adaptó rápidamente y ahora es uno de los niños que lee mejor del grado. Sus papás viven en un cantón afuera de La Reina, un pueblo colindante, pero Manuel vive en Agua Caliente con su abuela y su bisabuela. Su abuela cuida a su bisabuela, porque está algo enferma.
Manuel es un poco serio, pero tiene una sonrisa de ángel. Le gusta ayudar a sus tíos en la milpa. Su comida favorita es frijoles con jamón. La materia favorita de Manuel es matemáticas. Le gusta venir a jugar fútbol con sus compañeros, porque no hay más niños cerca de la casa. Él hace todas las tareas solito porque su abuela no puede leer. A Manuel también le gusta dibujar y durante las vacaciones, estudia mucho. Cuando sea grande, Manuel quiere ser doctor.

Manuel is nine years old and in second grade. This is his second year at PNARDS. He started last year, but had never been to kindergarten! Manuel had a lot of trouble reading at first, but quickly adapted and is now one of the quickest, brightest kids in his grade! Manuel’s parents live in the town of La Reina, near to Agua Caliente, but Manuel lives with his grandmother and his great-grandmother here.
Manuel is a pretty serious little boy, but he has an infectious smile. He likes to help his uncles on their farm (they grow corn and beans). Manuel’s favorite food is beans with deli ham and his favorite subject is math. He likes coming to school to play soccer with his classmates, because he’s got no other kids at home to play with. He does his homework all by himself, because his grandma can’t read. Manuel also likes to draw and during school vacations, he studies hard. When Manuel grows up, he wants to be a doctor.
